PEOPLE Committee
The People Committee is an essential building block of our church organization. It is the binding that welcomes and supports our members and friends in our community.
The charter of the People Committee is to enable FMUU members and friends to express through action the values and principles of our church. We do this by inviting participation and engagement, supporting practices of care and connection that contribute to the well-being of the church and engaging in community building.
Some areas of work that the People committee covers:
Membership: The People Committee assists in the meeting, greeting, orienting and integrating of new members. In addition, they assist in the ingathering process of new members during church services. The committee offers two new member orientation classes and ingatherings each church year, usually in the fall and spring.
Stewardship: The People Committee fosters stewardship and a culture of generosity within the church, and plans stewardship opportunities for members to contribute financially toward realizing the goals of the congregation. In addition, the committee develops and coordinates the annual Stewardship Campaign on behalf of the church.
Hospitality: The People Committee plans and coordinates potlucks and other functions for members, friends and visitors. This includes welcoming newcomers and organizing coffee and refreshments after Sunday services. All FMUU members take turns serving coffee after services.
Outreach: Includes such activities as sending special cards and making home visits to ill members.
All of our committees strive to assist with the following areas:
Social Justice: Educate congregation members and the public in areas of social concern; find ways and means to rectify social injustices; and sponsor or support groups organized to deal with social problems. The committees identify opportunities for church involvement in social change issues in the church and in the larger community.
Promotion: Each committee seeks new members with appropriately targeted publicity.
Fundraising: This should be done with the goal of developing sources of revenue that reach beyond church membership into the larger community. The committees are encouraged to reach out to others in the congregation for help in conducting specific events as needs and skills warrant.
Long Range Planning: Committees have overall responsibility for the annual review, revision, and extension of the congregation's long-range plan. Each year, they identify major directions of the church for the ensuing five years; develop a plan of concrete steps that can be taken toward those goals, based on input from the congregation and monitors implementation of specific objectives in the current Five Year Plan.
