WELCOMING CONGREGATION

We are a Unitarian Universalist Welcoming Congregation that seeks to be a spiritual home for people of free faith regardless of race, color, gender, affectional or sexual orientation, age, national origin, socio-economic status, physical or mental ability.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Mission of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fargo-Moorhead is to provide to its members, and to the community, an environment of religious tolerance, a loving fellowship of diversity, an open forum for the exchange of social, political, and moral ideas and values, and a religious home for spiritual growth without fear of reprisal.

Sandy Branstiter:  The Recovery Story

Sandy is an accredited GIFTS Lay Leader for the ELCA Synod in Eastern North Dakota.  From Memphis, Tennessee, she moved to North Dakota with husband Ray in 1998.  They served in the Hannaford Cooperstown area until 2007 when they moved to Fargo to assume leadership of the Lost and Found Ministry.  They have five children and Sandy has a passion for quilting.  She acknowledges that spiritual growth is an on-going process and respects the diversity and value of many traditions, while remaining comfortable in her Lutheran faith.  Recovery Worship is a service that reaches out to individuals involved in 12 step programs that attempts to add a deeper dimension to their lives.

PLACE COMMITTEE

The Place Committee is an essential building block of our church organization.  It tends to the structural and technical needs of the church and its members and friends.

The charter of the Place Committee is to enable FMUU members and friends to express through action the values and principles of our church.  We do this by creating a welcoming atmosphere that inspires possibility, tending to the aesthetic, structural, and technical need of the church, and preserving this place as a nourishing spiritual home.

Some areas of work that the Place committee covers:

Facility: It oversees and coordinates the physical maintenance of the church building and grounds; coordinates volunteers for mowing and snow removal, and other yard related work; monitors an annual preventive maintenance schedule; makes recommendations for capital improvements; and assures maintenance of a church property inventory.

Archives: Dedicated to the preservation of the history of our congregation and Unitarian Universalism, through the collection, storage, maintenance, and display of items of significance to the FMUU church.

Aesthetics: Creating a visually comfortable and pleasing space, including decorations for special celebrations, throughout the building.

Library: Our church has a small library in the community room for everyone to enjoy and check out books of interest to them.

All of our committees strive to assist with the following areas:

Social Justice:  Educate congregation members and the public in areas of social concern; find ways and means to rectify social injustices; and sponsor or support groups organized to deal with social problems.  The committees identify opportunities for church involvement in social change issues in the church and in the larger community.

Promotion: Each committee seeks new members with appropriately targeted publicity.

Fundraising: This should be done with the goal of developing sources of revenue that reach beyond church membership into the larger community.  The committees are encouraged to reach out to others in the congregation for help in conducting specific events as needs and skills warrant.

Long Range Planning: Committees have overall responsibility for the annual review, revision, and extension of the congregation's long-range plan.  Each year, they identify major directions of the church for the ensuing five years; develop a plan of concrete steps that can be taken toward those goals, based on input from the congregation and monitors implementation of specific objectives in the current Five Year Plan.

If you are willing and able to help with small maintenance tasks, please contact the church office at fmuu@fmuu.org or call (701) 235-0394.
