Long Range Plan Implemenation
Approved by Board of Directors August 2004
Most church committees are operational. That is, they implement their own plans or programs. The Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) is an exception. Its function is solely planning, and it depends on the Board of Directors for implementation of approved action plans.
In this context, the LRPC recommended and the Board of Directors approved the following policy on long range plan implementation.
- If there is an appropriate operational (standing) committee, the Board liaison is responsible for assuring that the approved plan is referred to that committee for action.
- The Board is responsible for actions on plans relating to leadership.
- On recommended plans other than leadership, for which there is no operational committee, the Board is responsible for assuring implementation either directly or by delegation to an ad hoc or new standing committee.
- If approved recommendations do not require explicit actions, the Board is responsible for determining, or requesting from designated others, the specific objectives to be achieved or steps to be taken. The Board is then responsible for assuring that those objectives are pursued or steps are taken.
