APRIL 2004 PROGRAMS

Sundays, 11:00 A.M.

April 4

Susan Ekberg "The Power of Story"

We are surrounded with stories from the moment we are born. Stories have a way of helping us understand ourselves and the world around us. Join Susan Ekberg, storyteller, writer, and intuitive, as she weaves the stories around us and through us. She will share the powerful story "Sealskin Soulskin," along with other stories.

Following the church service we will have our annual Spring Ahead Potluck.. Bring a favorite dish to share and remember to set your clocks ahead one hour for daylight savings before retiring on Saturday night, April 3. Child care will be provided.

April 11

Mark Gealy "What about the Resurrection Thing?"

While chatting after Mark's intriguing program on the work of The Jesus Seminar, Linda Coates asked, "What about the resurrection thing?" We immediately knew we had another service. Mark will join us again to discuss similarities and differences among Biblical accounts of Jesus' resurrection. He will try to comment on the veracity of various pieces of the story and leave the 'did it really happen?' question unresolved (because, of course, it is).

Folks who are interested in this topic may want to do some homework. The assignment is Mark chapter 16, Matthew chapter 28, Luke chapter 24 and John chapter 20 (in that order).

April 18

Laurie Baker "Seeking the Truth"

What is a faith that does not consider itself a religion, holds the search for truth as its principle aim, honors religious freedom for all as a sacred trust and a foundation of its social justice efforts, and generally depends on its congregation for leadership in worship? Sounds like UU, doesn't it? Ranbir Kaur will explore the roots and philosophy of the 4th and youngest monotheistic world religion: Sikhism.

April 25

Mary Lou Dahms "Final Journeys"

At Hospice of the Red River Valley, they value the right of individuals to live well until the end of their lives, and to die on their own terms with dignity and in peace and comfort. Mary Lou Dahms will join us to discuss some of the complex issues and intimacy involved in the dying process and the sense of privilege that comes with being permitted by patients and families to be part of these final journeys.
