December 7

Sherry Short "The World War One Christmas Day Truce"

On Christmas Eve, 1914, soldiers on both sides of the Great War engaged in a spontaneous truce--in defiance of the orders of their superiors--and met in No Man's Land to exchange gifts and food, play soccer, and bury their dead. How and why the truce began, and how and why it ended are parts of a largely forgotten, true Christmas story.

December 14

Rev. Phil Holtan "Art and Advent"

Phil Holtan is a campus pastor at Concordia College and an experienced woodturning artist who seeks to express his faith and individuality through his art. He will use some of his turnings and puzzles to "pry open" the ancient church season of Advent, a time of brokenness, self -examination, expectation and hope.

December 21

Christmas/Solstice (Intergenerational)

The longest night, the brightest star. Stories of journeys and miracles; songs of joy and wonder. Let us celebrate the fullness of the season, as we acknowledge the sacred in our lives and give thanks for our many blessings.

December 28

Kwanzaa (Intergenerational)

"Habari gani?" ("What's the news of the day?") Come join us on December 28th, as we celebrate Kwanzaa, a holiday to honor the richness of African heritage. We will learn about the 7 principles of Kwanzaa in story and song. "Harambee!" ("Let's work together!") to make this Intergenerational service a yearly tradition!
