March 9

Bill Thomas: "In Praise of You"

We sing songs of giving and receiving and songs of being joined in community, yet often shrink and shirk and stay away when the conversation turns to stewardship. Yet, stewardship is a theological belief that humans are responsible for the world, and should take care of it. This concept is imbedded in each of the UU principles. So enter without fear. The goal is to explore a theological premise that can give solid foundation to all our political, social and environmental undertakings.

March 16

Jan Eliassen: "Making Shelter for the Homeless"

Amid concern, generosity, controversy and politics, the City of Fargo has moved forward with the creation of a publicly owned shelter for homeless men and women living in or passing through the area. The Gladys Ray Shelter is the only shelter that will permit intoxicated persons to stay overnight. Plans include a detoxification area run by Center Inc. Calming fears, finding money, shaping policy, and collecting the goods needed to open the shelter's doors - are some of the tasks given to Jan Eliassen, recently named Executive Director of the Gladys Ray Shelter. Please join us in hearing first-hand about this vital undertaking.

March 23

Mary Jo Kayley: "The Myths and Mandalas of Easter"

Like an anthropologist interpreting cave paintings, Artist Mary Jo Kayley will brighten our Easter morning with an interpretive journey of how myth and mandala combine in the folk art of egg painting. A Sanskrit word loosely translated from to mean circle, a mandala is far more than a simple shape. It represents wholeness, and can be seen as a model for the organizational structure of life itself-a cosmic diagram that reminds us of our relation to the infinite, the world that extends both beyond and within our bodies and minds. Featuring beautiful art and fascinating conversation-wear your Easter bonnet.

March 30

Justice Sunday: "The Cost of Iraq: Who Pays the Price?"

Congress continues to debate the true cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan which may be as high as $1.6 trillion. These wars have drained this nation's resources and created a humanitarian crisis in Iraq. Meanwhile, a multitude of needs at home remain unmet. This UU Service Committee Program and its Simple Steps for Justice will be presented by FMUU Program Coordinator Laurie Baker.
