November 9

John Karvel "Thich Nhat Hanh"

"I do not personally know of anyone more worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize than this gentle Buddhist monk from Vietnam. I know Thich Nhat Hanh and am privileged to call him my friend. He is a holy man, for he is humble and devout. He is a scholar of immense intellectual capacity. His ideas for peace, if applied, would build a monument to ecumenism, to a world brotherhood, to humanity."

Martin Luther King, Jr.

John Karvel has been studying Thich Nhat Hanh for several years and attended his retreat in Wisconsin this summer, entitled "Protecting and serving without stress or fear." John will share Thich Nhat Hanh's teachings and some reflections on the retreat. He will also lead both a breathing mediation and a walking meditation. These simple techniques, if practiced, can help bring us into the present moment, the here and the now, wherein joy, peace, love and compassion reside. If not now, when?

For further information on Thich Nhat Hanh, please see information inside newsletter.

November 16

"Free Chocolate"

What would the world be like if chocolate were free and available to anyone anytime? Come muse with us on this and other pressing questions.

November 23

Robert Angotti "Love and Compassion in the Practice of Aikido"

Being a devout Shinto practitioner, O'Sensei (the founder of Aikido) observed that all things of the natural world were divine and sacred. At the core of the human spirit there was a light of love and compassion that (once overcome with diligent devotion to the path of the warrior) could illuminate the true path. Teacher and practitioner Robert Angotti has found that his own practice has illuminated these ideas at various stages and in numerous ways, and yet he is still deeply involved with understanding their essence.
