Theater B, Carrie Wintersteen and company: "The Living Spirit: Performance as Metaphor and Message"

Theater is ritual and ritual is theater, spinning from archetypes, myths, and morals, webs that reach deep into our human psyches and teach us that which we need to know to evolve. Born from the talents of five dedicated artists, Theater B features two of our own members, Carrie and David Wintersteen, along with Lori and Scott Horvik and Amber Rae Krenzel. This dynamic little group is challenging the status quo in Fargo-Moorhead with provocative, cutting edge scripts and performances. Come and hear this new voice in our community.

October 10

Bob Uebel: "Same-Sex Marriage: It's about More than Rights and Benefits"

Starting from the belief that marriage is a basic human right, Bob will discuss the struggle for marriage equality for gay and lesbian Americans and the backlash that has ensued. He also will focus specifically on the current attempt to amend the North Dakota constitution to define marriage as between one man and one woman, essentially prohibiting most protections for gay and lesbian couples. Bob Uebel is the chair and co-founder of Equality North Dakota, the statewide advocacy organization for GLBT North Dakotans.

October 17

Dr. James Ulness: "The Spiritual Destiny of America"

Deep insight into the spiritual, moral and psychological workings of society characterize the thinking of Dr. James Ulness, noted Anthroposophist, sometime Moorhead resident, and long-time professor of psychology at Concordia College. Dr Ulness considers the role anthroposophy could play in the world events of our time, in particular America's spiritual destiny. He calls on each of us to ask: "What is the America of our hopes and dreams?" And to consider how we can play our parting making it happen.

October 24

Jim Danielson: "Speaking our minds: Polling and Political Process"

The ancient Greeks conceived of democracy as a process through which citizens gathered to discuss and reach agreement on public policies that would serve the common good. In large modern societies that include many citizens, public opinion polling serves as an instrument for informing citizens about the preferences of others and reasons for supporting various candidates and public policies. Unfortunately, much polling is strategic, manipulative and in many instances only superficially informative. Jim Danielson is a Professor of Political Science at MSUM.
