Rev. Carole Ann Cole: "Autumn: A Time for Reflection"

Autumn is a traditional time for most religious traditions to provide ceremony for reflection upon and celebration of the continuing cycle of life. Today, we honor this time of year when nature's and the human spirit's ability to reflect and turn inward is so evident.

The Reverend Carole Ann Cole is a U.U. Community Minister living in Santa Barbara, California. She graduated from Thomas Starr King Seminary in 1986 and since that time has been ministering in the Santa Barbara area. Her community ministries include multicultural community building with youth and families, social justice empowerment building in congregations, environmental protection work, and pastoral counseling to elders. In her remarks, Rev. Cole will address the 7th principle and the interdependent web of life.

October 9

John Peterson: "Hands Off Venezuela!"

The Pentagon may be bogged down in Iraq, but that doesn't stop it from continuing its threats against the democratically elected government of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. It is no coincidence that Venezuela, like Iraq, is a top oil-producing nation. Come learn about the recent history and current situation in Venezuela, and the inspiring struggle of the Venezuelan people for democracy and control over their destinies.

John Peterson is the National Secretary of the U.S. Hands Off Venezuela Campaign. He has been active in spreading awareness of events in Venezuela since the U.S.-backed coup against President Hugo Chavez in April 2002.

October 16

Phil Mouch: "Growing Up Baptist in a Catholic Family"

Jerry Falwell. Pat Robertson. What sort of person do these names conjure up? Many of us may find that we have some very negative associations when we think of Fundamentalist Christians. A recent article in UU World by Doug Muder suggests that UUs develop an understanding of the religious right. Phil Mouch spent the first decades of his life as a Fundamentalist Christian. He will share some of his spiritual story and the perspective that experience gave him.

Phil Mouch is a member of the FMUU Board of Directors and teaches Philosophy at Minnesota State University-Moorhead.

October 23

Bob Worner: "Inherent Worth: Speaking to the First Principle"

Underwood UU member Bob Worner will share his thoughts on the first principle of Unitarian Universalism. Bob Worner is a retired protestant minister and a frequent speaker at the Underwood UU Church. His programs at FMUU have been enthusiastically received and we look forward to this return visit.
