Sundays, 11:00 A.M.

October 1

Christine Stark: "Prostitution: Modern Day Slavery"

Slavery is present in our world today. Writer, artist, speaker and activist Christine Stark will discuss prostitution as a system of inherent violence that harms prostituted people and subjugates all women and girls. Christine is a co-editor of Not for Sale: Feminists Resisting Prostitution and Pornography. Her work has appeared in numerous periodicals and anthologies.

October 8

Phil Mouch: "Happiness"

Can we describe what a happy world would look like? Does happiness require sadness? Using Ursula K. Le Guin's story "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" as a travel guide, we will explore our own conceptions of happiness. (N.B. Familiarity with the story is not required.) Phil Mouch, FMUU board chair, offers the second in a series of talks on topics relevant to Unitarian Universalism.

October 15

Kenneth Schei: "Rescuing Jesus"

Tired of having Christianity defined by Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and others of their ilk? Should Christianity really be called the "Church of Paul"? Don't miss Kenneth Schei's presentation Rescuing Jesus (and America) from the Religious Right. Schei, of San Diego, is the founder of Atheists for Jesus and the author of Christianity Betrayed. He is speaking at FMUU as part of his 2006-07 speaking tour. http://rescuingjesus.org
