Phil Mouch: "Job's Question"

How can we answer Job's Question: Why do bad things happen to good people? The question of evil is one that many religions and faith traditions attempt to answer and with which many people have struggled. This talk is yet one more struggle with that pressing and timely question. The question of evil is the first in a series of programs that FMUU Board President and popular presenter, Phil Mouch, will be offering this year.

Spiritual Film Showing: The Secret

The FMUU Program Committee will show the spiritual cinema film, The Secret, on Sunday, September 17 at 4:30 p.m. (followed by discussion). Here is an excerpt from the website: "A number of exceptional men and women discovered The Secret, and went on to become known as the greatest people who ever lived. Among them: Plato, Leonardo, Galileo, Napoleon, Hugo, Beethoven, Lincoln, Edison, Einstein and Carnegie, to name but a few. Fragments of The Secret have been found in the oral traditions, in literature, in religions and philosophies throughout the centuries. For the first time, all the pieces of The Secret come together in an incredible revelation which will be life transforming for all who experience it." http://www.thesecret.tv/home-synopsis.html#top

Kristen Behrens: "Serving Our Mission: Confronting Racism in Fargo-Moorhead"

The national mission of the YWCA is to eliminate racism and empower women. The organizational statement says: "The YWCA has actively worked to eliminate racism and empower women since 1858. We were there through suffrage. We held the first interracial conference in the South in the early 20th century. And we fought for civil rights and affirmative action. But we can't merely legislate our way towards equality. We also need to change people's hearts and minds. We need to stop the routine degradation of women, whether it's in pop culture or in their homes. We need to continue the conversation on racial equality, because people of color are still not completely accepted in American society." This mission is as relevant in the Fargo-Moorhead area as it is anywhere in the nation. Kristen Behrens, director of the Hallmark Programs of the YWCA of Fargo-Moorhead, will share what is happening locally and how we can bring antiracist and empowerment principles more deeply into our own lives.
