Summer 2003 Adult Religious Education

ARTICULATING YOUR UU FAITH

This summer during June and July, the church will offer an adult Religious Education course called Articulating Your UU Faith. The focus of this curriculum is on articulation — practicing how and what to say in various settings in which you might be called upon to declare yourself religiously or illuminate some angle on this liberal religious movement that has touched and changed so many lives for the better. Such moments are precious opportunities to deepen your own path and perhaps grow a happy awareness in someone else about this rich "living tradition." Yet many of us struggle to describe our religion adequately to others. This course provides hopeful inspiration and resources, plus the opportunity for meaningful connection to fellow UUs. The course includes information about the UU principles and UU history and is a great adult RE experience for prospective, new and longer-term members. As part of the course, we will create a worship service together and perhaps have the opportunity to offer this service to the entire congregation in the fall of 2003.

The six-session course will be offered Tuesday evenings, beginning June 17, 7:00-9:00 p.m., in the Guild Room of First United Methodist Church, just up the block from our church. The course will meet June 17 and 24, and July 1, 8, 15, and 22.

Participants are encouraged to attend all six sessions if at all possible. However, if you need to miss a session (or even two) because of summer vacation or other plans, please do not let that be a barrier to participation.

A donation of $10 to cover copying and other incidental costs is requested. If you are not able to donate $10, please contribute at a level that feels affordable to you. A donation is not required for participation.

Child care will be available if requested. First United Methodist Church will allow us to use their nursery for on-site child care. If you need child care, please let me know as soon as possible so I can make appropriate arrangements with Julie Allen, UU Office Manager.

To register, please e-mail me by Tuesday, June 10, at cpalmer@cableone.net to let me know you wish to register for the course. Please also indicate if you will need child care. Let me know via either e-mail or telephone if you have any questions.

I'm very excited about this course and the high level of interest in it. I encourage you to participate if your schedule permits.

Sincerely,
Cindy Palmer, Membership Chair
UU Church
